seekersks is officially the bestest little (not so little now) brother ever! Not only did he find me a new hard drive that's double the size of the old one, his birthday present to me finally came in, and I got this! and this! *alternates between squealing and dancing and shameless fangirling* They look just awesome. Now, I need a place to put them...

In less happy news, I really see no solution to the Ebay problem. Someone please tell me if I'm missing something (I frequently miss obvious links on webpages, so this is possible), but the only reporting option I can see that Ebay offers is a form to submit that essentially seems to involve claiming that I'm the copyright holder. And, I'm not. I mean, the art is mine, but the characters aren't, so I don't see that there's anything I can do. Beyond beg that no one buy iron-ons from the guy. (Hey, if you want iron-ons of my art, just buy some iron-on paper for your printer and have fun. I wouldn't mind that in the least. Just please don't sell it.) But, thanks to everyone for offering suggestions and commiserating.

Okay... happy thoughts now. I have my purdy, purdy new Inuyasha figures to ogle, and

ryokometal_75's drabble is finally coming together. And, I should have another batch of SK icons to post soon too.

Project Updates: Well, I sat down this morning with

And, I managed to knock out two of the requested short fics. Wouldn't you know neither is "a line or two". Actually, both are even longer than a drabble. Nyar. I just can't be brief.

Personal Chatter: Wow... I think I've been buried in cards and well-wishes! Thanks so much to everyone who's wished me a happy birthday! (If I list names, I know I'll forget someone.) I had an awesome birthday overall. The cake survived my efforts to help Mom decorate it, and I survived the mass quantities of sugar frosting I ate. Got back my convention special Sesshoumaru and Jaken (my aunt had told me to buy something for her to give me and Sess got elected). And, see, this is what he looks like in real life. No lipstick. I also got the official DVD of Inuyasha: Tenka Hadou no Ken/Swords of an Honorable Ruler, more Inuyasha manga and the next Harry Potter book I needed. (Yes, yes, I'm behind. I only just started reading the books, and they are very addicting.) So, yes, it was a great birthday.

Webpage Updates: As Sage already noted, the SWAT Kats Fan Art Archive is updated, and I'm working on another update for the Fanfiction Archive.

Finished Pic: I'm slowly but surely getting some of my many sketches polished up and colored. First up is an old, old quick sketch of Static: Static... now in color! No background or anything fancy, just wanted to see her in color.

I was supposed to write the rest of my Otakon comments nearly two weeks ago! But, I woke up on Sunday morning in Baltimore with the makings of a nasty cold, and it just got worse for most of that week. So, I wasn't really in a typing mood. (In fact, I wasn't in the mood to do much of anything but sleep.)

But, I'm better now and would just like to reiterate that Otakon was awesome! All further con squealing behind the cut!

Website Updates:

And, in more recent news, the SWAT Kats Fanfiction Archive has been updated! 9 new fics and 4 new authors this time out. Whoo! Boomerang needs to put SK up in their line-up more often. It really seems to boost the numbers of fanworks out there.

The SWAT Kats Fan Art Archive is also looking at an update soon. I've got several entries and have done most of the coding and uploading for the new submissions. And, Sage is juuuust about done with our new layout.

Finished Pics: Just realized I hadn't even made note of two of my most recent pics. They are, however, posted to the deviantART account that I got... man, almost a month ago. (I hadn't ever planned on getting an account there, but Side7 was being inaccessible more often than not at the time and there were a number of artists I wanted to be able to watch.) Anyways, two silly Inuyasha pics:

Firefly Yasha - Inspired by the 4th Inuyasha movie "Inuyasha: Guren no Houraijima". In the course of the story, it is explained to Inuyasha and company that the many fireflies on Houraijima are the spirits of those who have been sacrificed in the Kama (a strange, mystic... kettle?). At one point, Inuyasha is sucked into the Kama. Naturally, he doesn't die, but I thought, "What if....?" So, because insisted it be posted, I give you the Firefly-Yasha. Fear his wrath! For he has a huge, huge mouth and at least one humongous fang, and he BITES! (And, we're not sure he's had all his shots.)

Revenge of the Firefly-Yasha - The sequel to the Firefly-Yasha pic. What? You thought Firefly-Yasha couldn't defeat the movie villains? Ha. Remember, he has a huge, huge mouth and sharp, pointy teeth.... as Ryuura is learning. Taste the vengeance of the Firefly-Yasha! (Though I admit that Ryuura's posture could also be interpreted as a sign of desperately needing a bathroom.)

Website Updates: Working on updates for the SK fanfic and fanart archives as well as my own SK gallery.

Personal Chatter: Otakon is this week! Okay, now I'm starting to get excited. They finally posted the schedule, and I've been looking over it and debating what panels and workshops I want to try to catch. It looks like it's going to be fun. Though I wish someone I knew was going besides Seek. Ah well...

I had to cheat on most of them.... a lot on "Doubletake". I just couldn't find any one paragraph that really said anything at all. I wonder if this is a problem in my writing style. Hmm... At any rate, it was kind of fun to pick out select moments, and it reminded me of the many things I have on the back burner.

Website Updates: Working away on the update for the SWAT Kats Fan Art Archive. I've been noticing a trend in a lot of the recent submissions by new artists. They keep asking, "Can I join your site?" Eh???? I thought the rules were pretty clear - "Have SWAT Kat art rated no higher than PG-13, and you're good to go." Or is this question the result of sites like the ones I see so often in the Inuyasha fandom where art and fanfiction archives are "invitation only" or where you have to pass a review of some kind to get in? Yipes, there's too few of us Katsfans around to be that kinda picky!

Happy Chatter: Things are looking much better this week. My grandmother is home from the hospital, I have a new bike so I can take a stab at getting some exercise (now on a bike with tires that aren't dry-rotted - it rides so smooth!) and I'm slowly chipping away at my e-mail backlog.

Website Updates: Gave Gone to the Dogs a quick update the other night. Just one new pic and some sketches that I'd previously posted here. The new pic is my ear-rubbing pic that I started aaaages ago. I'm not too fond of my drawing in it now, but I learned a few things in Painter in the process of coloring it.

Project Updates: Fiiiiinally finished

countrykat's birthday pic! (Yeah, I know... By now, it's almost time for her next one.) However, weird things happened between the sketch, the tracing and the final image.

This is more how it's supposed to look.

This is how the actual image turned out without Photoshop editing. Sypher is supposed to be scared, but he more looks like he's happy to have a pretty girl hugging on him... which is so not my shy Sy.

So, there's that little oddity, and I need to find some tips on scanning colored pencils. Most of the time, mine just don't look as good in the computer. (Though the scanner is not to blame for Sy's change of expression.)

More Sketchiness:

Yeps, as usual, I sketch a lot faster than I do finished pieces. But, lately, I've felt like so many of my pics completely lost their original feel when I traced them off to my heavier stock paper for coloring... and I wear the finish off the heavy stock if I sketch on it. Meh, I'll come up with something. For now, there are sketches!

Protocol as Kagura - Just a real quickie I sketched up. I'm still working on her hand. Anyways, Sage and I were once discussing SK and MBI characters filling roles in the Inuyasha cast, and we both thought that Protocol fit with Kagura perfectly. Hmm... Guess this makes Dark Kat Naraku ;)

Casual Wear - Just Inuyasha in modern clothes. Yes, I know... I like T-shirts and cargo pants.

Kill the Wabbit! - Not quite the parody I had planned after my last post, but I got a kick out of it.

So, I was on one of the Inuyasha forums where I lurk (again) and saw the link to this. It's an Inuyasha live action play. Yes, live action. This is Inuyasha in the play. Here is the rest of the cast. Fear.

And, it gets worse. This thing is a musical. (For the record, I love musicals... but Inuyasha should never be one.)

So, I showed it to Sage, and we got to joking about what an Inuyasha musical would be like. I proposed something like that Bugs Bunny short where Elmer Fudd sings, "Kill the Wabbit!" So, Sage came up with this... which had to be posted:

And, I keep forgetting that last fandom meme. I did it! Well, mostly, but then I ran out of easy fandoms and saved it for the night. Then, I forgot it. Gotta get back to that. Though I find that some of the questions a little tricky. In some fandoms, I'm not at all sure what characters are loved or hated... and I can't think of any character I've ever liked that I don't any longer. I have... fallen out of squealing fangirlish obsession, but never really stopped liking anyone flat out.

Website Updates: Still haven't officially gotten Fyresight upgraded, but I'm playing e-mail tag with the Dominet staff and it will happen. In fact, due to their rearrangement of service packages a while ago, it looks like adding 800 more megs will only cost us an extra dollar a month. The process would be done by now, but, because Seeker originally registered the site and set everything up, they keep responding to his e-mail rather than mine when I ask questions, so he has to forward everything to me.

Project Updates: Currently beating off a rabid Inuyasha plotbunny that had me with my nose buried in re-reading David Weber's The Apocalypse Troll most of yesterday evening (partly for inspiration and partly to make sure the opening chapter in my mind was nothing like Weber's opening chapter). I want to do a sci-fi Inuyasha AU. I've wanted to for a long time. Eh, I've been wanting to get back to sci-fi (and my SK fics) for a long time. And, I think Sage and I might have finally hammered out something feasible. Though it's going to require a good deal of research and thought to make it work. And, I'm supposed to be writing Miscomm! Why are the ideas that grab me the most always new ideas?! Why can't I get any strokes of brilliance on the things I need to finish?

Website Updates: Well, first off, the SWAT Kats Fan Art Archive has been updated! Sage and I were hoping to get it up with this spiffy new layout Sage was working on, but she got bogged down in school and work and life in general. The new layout is still coming! Just... not with this update.

And, to answer Annu's question about if we're accepting entries: Last night, I was all ready to just type, "Yes! Send art!" in on the SK.com forum. Then, I thought, "I should go see how much space we have on the site." And, eh heh... Space is getting kinda slim. But, that will be fixed soon, and we will be accepting new art. I've already talked to Seeker about it (and I'll get with Sage as soon as she's back), and I've e-mailed our provider, Dominet, about our upgrade options and what it will cost. I'm not expecting the price to be anything we can't handle. They're usually pretty reasonable. But, I'm waiting to hear back from Dominet before I announce anything on the forum.

And, I'm hoping my site and the SWAT Kats Fan Fiction Archive will both be seeing updates in the near future... but I'm not predicting when because it's always later than I expect.

Sketchiness!: Just one little sketch I did based on a conversation with Sage. We were talking about how, in Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru's sword Tenseiga almost seems to have a mind of its own. And, Inuyasha's Tessaiga sometimes does to a much lesser extent. So, on a whim, I did a picture of a human... er... youkai Tessaiga and Tenseiga. Yes, they deliberately favor their owners ;)

Well, I was wandering around one of the Inuyasha's forums where I tend to lurk and came across this little posting with various types of romantic pairings listed. Now, everyone knows I'm no big fan of romance (though I admit that I do make some exceptions to that rule where Inuyasha is concerned), but Sage and I decided to half-jokingly propose our responses to the pairings. It was fun, so here's my responses for both SWAT Kats and Inuyasha. (No response is intended to screech, "You're an idiot!" at anyone who supports said pairing or be in any way offensive. It's just my own joking opinion on what I've seen online, and I claim it to be nothing but opinionated.)

Project Updates: Just thought I'd post up my latest effort at a 100 word fanfic. Didn't quite make the 100 word limit this time - it's more like a 150 word fic. The story is an idea that's been tossing around in my head for a while now - a slightly AU take on a possible ending for Kagura after Naraku's death. (The AU is because it's a notion I first thought of prior to the developments in the last eight to nine months worth of Inuyasha manga and I deliberately do not take them into account with this story.)

Project Updates: As happens so often, I haven't finished anything I was supposed to be working on. But, I did scrawl down some sketches I thought were worth posting:

First, this girl who popped out one evening. Her feet are half-finished because I literally ran out of paper. I'd been planning to just scrawl a headshot, and she just happened.

Then, all of these. Mostly SWAT Kat-related, but one peeved Miroku (from Inuyasha) got in there somehow. Top left is something I dabbled with making a comic of (hence the panel line at the bottom). We'll see how that goes. Bottom left was intended to be CK's Tasha. Why she's in the fancy dress is beyond me. And, bottom right is actually a much older T-Bone I just never did anything with.

I finally sat down and wrote up some more fanfic reviews for my webpage, and it occured to me - why not post them here? So, yeah, here's a collection of reviews/comments on fanfics I've read recently that I thought were worth mentioning. I enjoyed them; maybe someone else will.

All I Need is a Miracle by Vathara
Series: Rurouni Kenshin
Rated: R for profanity, violence, and some innuendo

Status: Complete
Summary: Between life and death, there is a moment to choose: peace - or let the demon rise once more.... AU fix to Samurai X - Reflections, crossover with Gargoyles. (Summary taken directly from the one posted on FFN)
Comments: It's like Kenshin crossed with Inuyasha! Okay, so, as an Inuyasha fan, that was my first thought in reading this story. The story does reference youkai and hanyou and seems to touch on a lot of concepts commonly found in Inuyasha fanfiction. The struggle between Kenshin and the Battousai is incredibly reminiscent of Inuyasha wrestling with his youkai side. As the Youkai Inuyasha arc was probably my favorite of all the Inuyasha plotlines, I find the parallel intriguing. That said, the story is not an Inuyasha crossover. However, it may still be off-putting to more purist RK fans. Personally, I found the RK characters well in-character and didn't feel like the series was compromised by either the new elements or the Gargoyles crossover (which is very mild and mostly limited to Demona's role).

In the Winnower's Garden by Lauhau

Status: Unfinished
Summary: Borrowing heavily from Irish and Welsh mythology, this fairy tale explores one possibility behind the creation of the Labyrinth and the future of the girl who solved it. (Summary taken directly from the one posted on FFN)
Comments: Wow, it's a rather convoluted tale that explains how I came to be reading Labyrinth fanfiction of all things (it's far from my favorite movie and David Bowie scares me), but it boils down to a case of boredom at work and lots of browsing on FFN. The mythology angle promised in the summary was too much to resist, and I just couldn't ignore this one. It's unfinished and, like as not, will remain so given how long it's been since it's seen an update, but the story is still engrossing, very well-written and succeeded in refreshing my interest in looking up more on Irish and Welsh mythology.

Yeah, the big note of this update is that I have finally finished Chapter 5 of my multi-chapter Inuyasha AU Miscommunication. It took about a year, and the one chapter alone is roughly the size of some of my early SWAT Kat fanfics. Eh heh... I'll try to be faster in the future... Honest! Er... And, no promises on being less longwinded. (Note: The link posted above is to a copy of the chapter that may still see some edits and the mentioned changes to the earlier chapters aren't posted yet because it's too late to fight with Fanfiction.net's wretched QuickEdit and the alterations it will inevitably make to my formatting).

Additionally, I've managed to complete the first of what I hope will be a series of 100 word SWAT Kat shorts. This one is The Gift, featuring Commander Feral and Felina.

I'm also working on a small update for the SWAT Kats Fanfiction Archive. Unfortunately, that's briefly on hold until I can contact an author for more information... which is my fault for deleting their first e-mail, not the author's.

Ahhh... Look, I got something done!
