kristensk: Inuyasha's tweakable ears (Inuyasha - Tweak)

Grah!

I was supposed to write the rest of my Otakon comments nearly two weeks ago! But, I woke up on Sunday morning in Baltimore with the makings of a nasty cold, and it just got worse for most of that week. So, I wasn't really in a typing mood. (In fact, I wasn't in the mood to do much of anything but sleep.)

But, I'm better now and would just like to reiterate that Otakon was awesome! All further con squealing behind the cut!

Saturday was the best day there. The wait to get in wasn't bad at all (not surprising since everyone just walked in and showed their badges). Since the panels we were hoping to attend didn't start until later, [livejournal.com profile] seekersks and I sat in on one of the anime showings. We got to see the first three episodes of a series called "The Twelve Kingdoms". I know [livejournal.com profile] seekersks mentioned it in his LJ too. Since getting back, we've gotten a copy and watched through "Book One". It's a really good series.

After the video ended, we headed down to the dealer room, and I finally broke down and bought the convention special model Sesshoumaru and Jaken. I promise that in person it doesn't look like he's wearing lipstick. He just has his mouth open. Honest. Then, we wandered around some more, and I worked on collecting Sage's birthday present. I do admit that I was a little surprised that the merchandise available was so limited. Plenty of Inuyasha goodness to be sure. Full Metal Alchemist was everywhere. There was also lots of Bleach and Fruits Basket stuff. Probably a few others that I've either forgotten or didn't recognize. But, not nearly the variety I had expected. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.

Anyways, later, we attended the Inuyasha panel, which was interesting. I thought at the start that it might just re-hash information I already knew, but the discussion was actually a lot of fun. And, the voice artist's panel was awesome. Since it took so long to get everyone seated, we got around an extra half hour to ask questions. For whatever reason, neither Richard Cox nor Scott McNeill, who work on the English version of Inuyasha, made it (I still hold that they were kidnapped by rabid fangirls and forced to read their fanfics in character voice. I only wish I'd thought of... *cough* Nevermind.), but oh well.

Probably one of the best moments at the con was while we were eating lunch between panels and somehow ended up beside the group who headed up the volunteer end of the Inuyasha panel. They were all dressed in character costumes with an Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru, Sango, Kagome and Kagura. A Miroku cosplayer was down the hall instructing a girl friend in "the proper way to glomp", which was hilarious in and of itself considering Miroku's character. Then, he ambled over to the Inuyasha group and, after several minutes of talking, abruptly leaned in close to the Inuyasha cosplayer, squinting, and pronounced, "You're actually female, aren't you?" (There will be fanart of this yet - with the characters, not any recognizable cosplayers.)

All in all, the convention was a lot of fun. I walked away with three Inuyasha figures (four if you count Jaken with Sesshoumaru), one Inuyasha T-shirt, one print by the awesome Druihd (whom I got to speak to in person briefly but I was too shy to say how much I love her work) and a lot of fun memories. It was great. Seeker's already talking about going back next year. No complaints here... okay, except for that irritable rumble coming from my bank account.... eh heh.

Website Updates:

And, in more recent news, the SWAT Kats Fanfiction Archive has been updated! 9 new fics and 4 new authors this time out. Whoo! Boomerang needs to put SK up in their line-up more often. It really seems to boost the numbers of fanworks out there.

The SWAT Kats Fan Art Archive is also looking at an update soon. I've got several entries and have done most of the coding and uploading for the new submissions. And, Sage is juuuust about done with our new layout.
