kristensk: Alfred/America from Hetalia (Hetalia - Alfred)
This was actually one of the earliest "Hetalia" shorts I attempted, but it didn't come together until recently.

Hard Choices (Hetalia) )
kristensk: Alfred/America from Hetalia (Hetalia - Alfred)
I have no idea why I didn't post these literal years ago. But, here are a few Hetalia crossover fanfic recs I typed up and somehow forgot.

kristensk: Hetalia - Alfred and Matthew (Hetalia - Alfred and Matthew)
And, this is the last drabble I currently have on England's magic house. Just realizing now that I've been really inconsistent with the names. Here, I refer to America and Canada strictly by their human names of Alfred and Matthew/Matthieu. (Personally, I prefer the human names. It seems weirdly impersonal otherwise.)

Walking Closets (Hetalia) )
kristensk: Hetalia - Arthur Bored (Hetalia - Arthur Bored)
Continuing my drabbles about England's accidentally enchanted house. I actually wrote this one first, and then created the others around it to give some concept to this dangling snippet.

Modernizing (Hetalia) )
kristensk: Arthur - Hetlaia (hetalia)
This will be the first in a few Hetalia drabbles I'm working on about Arthur/England and his accidentally magical house. Inspired by a scattering of other Hetalia fanfics and a passage from Peter S. Beagle's novel "Tamsin".

England's Wonderful, Magical House (Hetalia) )
kristensk: Fall leaves in a blue sky. (Fall)
Happy Thanksgiving!

I realized I needed a new icon to go with my "Gamera: Rebirth" chatter. So, first, here's Gamera with a background texture from [community profile] wolfbane_icons' Sea of Japan texture set:

With Gamera done, I started poking at some half-finished Hetalia icons I had. So, now I'm posting those with some older ones I never commented on:

All Hetalia art is from creator Hidekaz Himaruya. The second icon uses a hybrid background made from what I think is [community profile] wolfbane_icons' Sea of Japan texture set with an overlay from one of her Frozen River textures.
kristensk: Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon (Dragon)
This is so intensely AU and populated by fan versions of characters, I'm not sure if it even counts as a fanfic anymore. So, I'm just going to pop it here and say it's a short about dragons who can take human form. Set in "our" world more or less. The time period is deliberately vague.

Here There Be Dragons )
kristensk: Hetalia - Alfred and Matthew (Hetalia - Alfred and Matthew)
This is total nonsense. But, Sage texted me this quote from YouTuber Markiplier that immediately made me respond, "That sounds like the kind of thing Alfred/America from "Hetalia" texts Matthew/Canada at 2:00am with no context." So, here's a drabble of it.

Insomnia (Hetalia) )
kristensk: Arthur - Hetlaia (hetalia)
This is a weird, random Hetalia short I wrote a while back. I hesitated to post it as it's very much inspired by HerdOfTurtles' short, Against Nature. After reading that, I had this idea for a similar situation that went in a different direction. Mostly, I once again wanted to explore the nature of personifications. This is set in no particular time and could be past or future.

Changeover (Hetalia) )
kristensk: Christmas star ornament. (Christmas Star)
So, Christmas has been and gone, and, despite some hiccups (sick cat, sick friends, burnt out septic pump), it was a good time. My aunt and I went only a little crazy with cookie and fudge making. I got to see my cousin's family for the first time in months. Many delicious meals were eaten. And, a lot of nice vegging out happened.

I also did indeed finish my annual SWAT Kat Christmas image right on time on the 24th. It's a companion to one I did in 2010 with the ten year anniversary being completely unplanned.

Also, I made myself a holiday-ish Ao no/Blue Exorcist wallpaper via editing some of Kazue Kato's amazing artwork. You can see it here.

Giftwise, well, I have plenty of goodies to watch/re-watch, some reading material in the form of more of Gordon R. Dickson's "Dragon Knight" series and Peter S. Beagle's "Tamsin", and, of course, fandom goodies thanks to [personal profile] jordannamorgan and MintySage.

Good times, but here's hoping for a brighter 2021.
kristensk: Hetalia - Arthur Christmas (Hetalia - Arthur Christmas)
I'm alive! Life has just been busy. But, here, for the Christmas season, a couple of Christmas fanfic recs:

A Gloomy December Eve by Urchin of the Riding Stars
Series: Hetalia - Axis Powers
Rating: PG
Warnings: Mild profanity, referenced character death.
Continuity: Alternate Universe/Human Characters
Location: Fanfiction.net
Status: Complete - Oneshot
Summary: 19th century England. Arthur Kirkland is a struggling writer without two coppers to rub together. Why then, should he care if a little urchin in rags should appear at his doorstop in the dead of night?
Comments: I generally avoid stories that make the characters human since it's their unique non-human nature that got me hooked on this series. But, I'm weak in the face of period settings let alone Arthur and Alfred father/son feels, and this story hits all the right notes. It's heartwarming and adorable and somehow reminds me a touch of O. Henry's classic "Gift of the Magi". In short, it was just what I needed for some Christmas sweetness.

Even a Miracle Needs a Hand by Rinsom
Series: Hetalia - Axis Powers
Rating: PG
Warnings: Some violence.
Location: ArchiveofOurOwn.org
Status: Complete - 12 Chapters
Summary: America doesn't feel like celebrating Christmas this year. Canada takes it upon himself to bring back his brother's Christmas spirit, but he finds that the job may be too big for one nation... and getting help might take a miracle.
Comments: I read this one earlier in the year and just came back to it now that it's actually the right season. The summary doesn't begin to cover all the twists and turns this one takes. Though the "Magic" tag is a good hint. Because what could have been a simple family drama takes a fascinating twist halfway through into what feels like a 1980's Christmas special. Alfred's inner struggle becomes a tangible and terrifying monster, and a quest must be undertaken to save more than just his Christmas spirit. And, it all wraps up beautifully with some sweet and silly family moments.
kristensk: Hetalia - Arthur and Alfred Memories (Hetalia - Arthur and Alfred Memories)
There's apparently a rule that whenever I first write for a new fandom it's going to be some weird oneshot that's neither the sort of thing I usually write nor the sort of thing I usually read and probably somehow a "what if?". It happened with "Inuyasha" (He Likes Red), "Fullmetal Alchemist" (Inseparable), and "Blue Exorcist" (Like Father, Like Son). So, have a post-apocalyptic "Hetalia" short.

Really, I just wanted to play with how the immortal personifications of nations might revive if their original bodies were gone beyond repair. Focuses on Scotland and England with a dash of Wales and America. And, shamelessly using AnAppleofDiscord's characterization of Scotland/Alistair since I've only seen him referenced briefly in the four seasons of anime I've watched.

So, either his essence had been shoved into the body of some luckless - and possibly dead, cold and stiff as the body’d been - drunk or the beaten, weakened land had taken the long path of having him born the human way. )
kristensk: Hetalia - Arthur Bored (Hetalia - Arthur Bored)
So, since I'll probably have a few more Hetalia related things to post, I made myself some icons (that I can't use here, sadly, as I'm at my limit):

And, one silly one for [profile] mintysage:

..Yes, England/Arthur is my favorite character. I blame AnAppleofDiscord's "Kith and Kin" series where he's fantastically flawed yet somehow still endearing.

All art used is either from creator Hidekaz Himaruya, the artbook packaged with the anime or the anime. Texture bases come from [community profile] wolfbane_icons' Nevermore and Haunted Mansion sets.
kristensk: Arthur - Hetlaia (hetalia)
Still plowing my way through "Hetalia" fanfics, enjoying all the historical fun and family feels whenever I can find them. So, here's some more fanfic recs.

kristensk: Hetalia - Arthur and Alfred Memories (Hetalia - Arthur and Alfred Memories)
So, I'm not entirely sure how it came about now, but I somehow stumbled upon some of the awesome, historically-based, and actually serious fanfiction written for the very not-serious anime "Hetalia: Axis Powers".

So, here are some of my favorites. There will be more to come.
