Tale as Old as Time...
Feb. 7th, 2011 11:31 pmThis past Saturday I finally got to enjoy my "big" birthday present from this past year - getting to see the Broadway version of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast". It was an off-Broadway performance, and it was amazing.
The additional music was lovely. (Another soundtrack for the wishlist!) And, they worked some interesting ideas into the extended plot. Especially the concept that the cursed servants are becoming more like inanimate objects. Some even losing the ability to move. It's a little creepy, but they didn't highlight it enough for it to pass into disturbing.
Otherwise, the actors were great, the sets were incredible, and I was completely wowed by how they handled the wolves. They were portrayed by human actors wearing wolf puppets of some sort. It was absolutely amazing how they moved to make the puppets look convincingly like wolves. The lighting and costumes rendered the humans involved almost invisible.
So, yes, there was much squee to be had.
