kristensk: Inuyasha's tweakable ears (Inuyasha - Tweak)
[personal profile] kristensk
Just got in from Animazement this afternoon. It was great! Having been used to Otakon, [livejournal.com profile] seekersks and I were a little surprised to find that we could just walk right in on Friday. There was no line if you had pre-registered. We walked in, handed over our registration cards and got our badges. In fact, Friday was pleasantly uncrowded all around. Parking also worked out pretty good. Coming back from lunch today, we had to hunt for a space, but found one without driving in too many circles. Small-ish cons definitely have their advantages.

So, the breakdown:

The Loot: I behaved myself this year as we still have Otakon coming up, and my car still needs some repair work. But, I did get the Sango PVC figure because she has an awesome pose and Kirara is adorable. [livejournal.com profile] seekersks was the one who cut loose. He finally bought himself a monstrous sword, which I'm sure he'll talk about and post photos of soon enough, so I won't rain on his parade.

The Panels: Our first panel was the Inuyasha one with guests Satsuki Yukino (Japanese voice of Kagome), Michihiko Suwa (producer for Inuyasha) and Toshifumi Yoshida (producer for the English version of Inuyasha). Yukino, of course, was asked to do her signature "Osuwari!" ("Sit!"), which was hilarious. Doubly so when Yoshida commented, "I wonder how many Inuyasha cosplayers just hit the deck." There was also the inevitable question about the chances of the Inuyasha anime returning. Suwa's answer was pretty much what I'd heard - they're waiting to see when/how the manga will wrap up and then the possibility of more anime will be considered. But, I'll remain hopeful so long as the answer is anything short of, "No, we have no plans for picking up that series ever again." And, hey, if they do get the series in production again, Yukino says she's up for it if they'll let her!

We also attended a couple of panels featuring some of the American voice artists. I wasn't familiar with any of them. (I wonder if Jim Cummings or any of the other voice actors that used to be in everything are guests at any kind of cons...). But, all voice artists fascinate me, and I love to hear their anecdotes. Otherwise, we attended several demonstrations. First, pyrography. It starts with "pyro", how could Seek resist? Actually, it's the art of wood-burning and nothing involving towering columns of flame, but it was cool all the same. Then, kendo, which was really interesting to watch.

The Anime: In-between it all we caught various anime in the viewing rooms. Nothing really jumped out at me in terms of, "I must see the rest of this series!" but I enjoyed most of it. And, back at the hotel we worked on catching up on Bleach. (The Bount filler arc is surprisingly good despite being loooooong.)

The Quotes:
"Hmm... Car jousting."
"Don't try it. ::beat:: Do you suppose they even have that offense on the books?"
"Probably."
"With a buster sword?"
"Maybe."
"Maybe in the years since they've had Animazement."
"It would be: Car jousting with an anime grade sword."

Overall, it was a great con. Every bit as good as Otakon without the massive crowds. And, it's only a few hours from home! How'd we miss this one the last couple years?
