Con Chatter:
seekersks and I just got back from Otakon today. I'm not quite as, "Wow, that was awesome!" as I was last year, but then this was my second con, so I was more used to it ;) It was definitely good though. So, for the specifics... (Warning: The word "awesome" may be massively over-used.)
General: Summer is eeeevil. It was miserably hot on Thursday afternoon when we got in line to get our badges. The sun on my legs was actually painful, like having a stovetop against your skin just a few minutes after the burners have been turned off. Predictably, this meant sitting down wasn't much help as the concrete was also painful to the touch. Thankfully, I did bring sunblock, so Seek and I weren't sunburned. I also had an umbrella I'd brought in case of rain, which, taking a cue from other con-goers, I used instead to give us a little shade. However, neither of us had even considered bringing something to drink and ended up paying way too much for a couple of soft drinks being sold by vendors (we'd have preferred water, but they were out). We corrected that little error on Friday by bringing our own water. But, despite the horrible temperatures, picking up our badges on Thursday was definitely the best way to go. Once they opened up at 5:00, we had our badges by 5:30. And then, we managed to be among the first people in the building on Friday morning by hopping in the shorter badge line.
The Panels: The first panel Seek and I attended was for Overclocked Remix. It was really good. Their showcase of remixes led me to looking up some new stuff, and pixietricks' performance of The Place We Knew was awesome. The other performance (sorry, I forget who sang that one... was it djpretzel?) was good as well, but the best part was everyone holding up their... whatevers and swaying to the music ("whatevers" included arms, cell phones, handheld games, flashlights and at least one lightsaber - there appeared to be almost two full rows of Nintendo DS's swaying in sync, which
seekersks thought was just awesome).
Next up was the Inuyasha panel wherein Urd-chan made the best suggestion ever for a way to correct the third Inuyasha movie's OOC final scene. Rather than Kagome putting Inuyasha's shattered rosary back by tricking him into it, she proposed that Rin, who had gathered the beads anyway, be the one to slip it back on Inuyasha, assuming he would be happy to have his necklace returned. That would have been just perfect.
We also attended the MegaTokyo panel, but I can't really say much about that one. Having only read the first printed volume worth of comics, I was a little out of the loop there.
The Merchandise: Finally got the Kouga and Kagura action figures. I also picked up another Inuyasha T-shirt (scroll down to the white backed one number BZ5392) and a keychain. *cough* What addiction? Er... yes, well. I also really wanted to find the Sango PVC figure, but had no luck.
The Anime: We got to watch "Howl's Moving Castle" again at the convention as well as a couple other things ("Starship Operators" and "Initial D", the live action movie), but probably the best thing I saw during my con time was Last Exile which we watched back at the hotel on Seek's laptop.
The Quotes: "It's a universal unwritten law that if someone throws a chair, there will be a riot. This has been supported by anime." -- Seeker
"Somebody set up us the bomb!" -- OC Remix panel staff upon receiving a wrapped present from a fan
"It's like those Vegas commercials - what happens at the con, stays at the con." -- Overheard
As for next year... oh yeah, we're probably going again ;)
Edit: Overclocked Remix now has up a full video of their con panel on their VJDJ site. It's Episode #053. Yes, Seek and I are in there somewhere.

Date: 2006-08-07 02:52 pm (UTC)And, yes, I'm going to be a happy little Inuyasha fangirl for days and days... especially if I decide I can spend my leftover con money and get that second season box set that's taunting me.
