Drabble Post - Something New (FMA)

This year's drabble for October 3rd went through a few mutations before the final version. Here's a sillier early version that I decided was worth posting here.


Something New

"Remember, no matter how many stupid questions they ask or even how stupid they are, you have to be patient.”

His brother glared at him. “I know that.”

"And, I know you," Al answered as he felt the train beneath them lurch into motion. Outside, Resembool's green hills began to roll past. "And, what you learned from Teacher. So, no throwing the chalk. Or the erasers. Definitely no chairs.”

Ed scowled, though it was half faked. "Do you want me to cancel this lecture? I already don’t like it. I'm not the teaching type."

"It's one guest lecture." Al smiled. "Besides, it'll be a good day to try something new."

Ed frowned, adding dates in his head.

Tomorrow, the day of the lecture, would be the third.

October 3rd.

He shot Al a rueful smile.

Maybe it would a good day for something new.

And, Al hadn’t forbidden throwing shoes.

*snorks* And of course, in my stories Ed also had long practice throwing things (including shoes) at Buck the rooster... :D

*laughs!* Now I'm wondering what happens when Ed runs out of his own shoes... Well, okay, it's more that I'm wondering how quickly he could steal someone else's for more ammo.

One of my stories featuring Buck specifically mentioned Ed throwing Al's shoes at him--much to Al's unamusement, of course. ;Þ

::snorks:: I don't remember that! ...Was Al wearing the shoes at the time?

No, considering it was a reaction to being woken up by Buck, the boys would be in bed when Ed was triggered into his anti-fowl fits. *g* This was way back in "Poultry Problems", Buck's first appearance in my fic.

(ETA: it's also worth noting that, if memory serves, kid!Ed tended to wear flipflops/sandals--which wouldn't make such good projectiles as Al's more substantial shoes.)

True. Though I'm now imagining Ed chucking his own sandals, being unsatisfied with their tiny impacts (and that they missed) and then trying to steal Al's shoes off his feet.
