So, the bunnies wanted to play some more in that "Pacific Rim" fusionverse. Particularly the FMA end of it.
Disability
Hawkeye saw it first, unsurprisingly. In their piloting days, she had seen every building attack first.
“Edward has prosthetics,” she told Marshal Mustang quietly.
He half-turned in surprise. “More than one?”
Two missing limbs - even on a child - were no longer surprising in and of themselves. Not after the carnage left in the wake of kaiju attacks. But, Elric moved so easily he hadn’t even suspected.
Hawkeye was nodding. “Right arm, left leg from the way he moves.”
As if his age wasn’t already a problem.
Mustang thought of how Elric had saved his brother, thought of the ways a mind like that could benefit the Jaeger Program outside the cockpit. And then, he thought of burning golden eyes and the cold, clinical diagnosis that had ended his own piloting career.
“It’s the mind that controls a jaeger,” he said at last. “And, he has no problem there.”

Note: Concerning Mustang, I'm going with the notion that he was retired from piloting due to radiation exposure, but he does not have full-on radiation poisoning/sickness.
