Fangirl Squee!

Yes, I'm a bouncy, happy fangirl right now. Because I just watched the teaser trailer for the upcoming Fullmetal Alchemist movie.
I'm finding a lot of disappointment on the sites I frequent. And, yes, it's worrisome that the production staff noted on Anime News Network all appear to be newcomers to the franchise, but... I'm still excited.
The story is clearly set back during Ed and Al's travels, which I expected and was kind of hoping for. Given this movie is meant to follow Brotherhood/the manga, I didn't think a continuation of the storyline was possible. The manga has a very final ending, and, well... they simply weren't going to make a Fullmetal Alchemist movie without a Fullmetal Alchemist.
Instead, this time, it looks like we're getting a stand-alone adventure in the vein of the other series-based movies I've seen. Which means an action-oriented storyline with higher quality animation and all the fan favorite characters at least putting in cameos. Which is all... pretty much what I expected. I have two anime and a manga full of character development and carefully planned plotlines if I want that. Also, I'm an unapologetic Saturday morning cartoon fangirl who enjoys seeing favorite characters in cool fight scenes.
So, I say bring it on! Chimera wolfman and flying people and all! Here's hoping Ed steals one of those nifty hang gliders.
And, as to some of the dodgy looking art in the trailer? Well, I distinctly remember that the first teaser trailer for the third Inuyasha movie was made entirely of footage that never appeared in the movie. So, yeah... That opening shot of Ed asleep on his research can stay though. Drool and all.
