kristensk: smile (snow)
Or maybe it was just a weekend of, "Anything that can go wrong, will". It started at work on Thursday. To sum it up, we had 1,100 three page brochures to print, fold, tab, label and stamp. One computer wouldn't run our old database software to print the mailing list, the other computer refused to recognize the mouse, one printer would only print a single copy at a time, one brand new toner cartridge was a dud and at least a hundred brochures were printed crooked such that text was missing before someone noticed.

Then, on Friday, my mother and I went up to my old college in the mountains for their Christmas concert. As Mom was trying to straighten the van in a parking space near the auditorium, it abruptly refused to go into gear. After the concert, we were able to get it to our hotel, shuddering and jerking most of the way, but that was pretty much the transmission's last gasp.

We woke up to a full blanket of snow on Saturday and were informed that the local AAA affliated towing company was tied up with accidents and wouldn't be able to get to us until Sunday. Then, while trying to just relax, my laptop had no less than three BSOD's in one afternoon. ([livejournal.com profile] seekersks tells me this is no big deal and he sees them often, but I haven't seen a BSOD since I first got Windows XP on my main desktop in 2002 or so.)

But... the brochures got done, the database works on the new computer now, Mom and I got to stay an extra day in a really lovely hotel where the staff were all very helpful as we sorted things out, and... there was snow! It was absolutely gorgeous up there. There's nothing like the sight of snow on the mountains.

In other good news, I got my draft and summary submitted to the FMA Big Bang Challenge. And, today, I got a Christmas card stuffed full of awesome FMA trading cards from [livejournal.com profile] jordannamorgan. Thank you so much! (And, yes, I will get back to you about certain fanfics now that things have stopped being crazy.) Also, thanks to whatever person(s) gave me the virtual present and dessert waffle.

So, I guess it's all sort of like one of those old La Quinta commercials.
