Retrospection
Chance settled into a chair on the garage’s tiny roof patio and stared into the neon-lit sky of MegaKat City across the bay. He frowned.
“Penny for your thoughts.”
Jake slid into the chair across from him.
“Ha.” Chance smirked. “My rates have gone up.”
Jake tossed him a cold milk. “There. So?”
“You ever wonder what life would be like if we were still in the Enforcers?”
“Well, we’d have steadier paychecks, a pension waiting…”
Chance winced, opened his mouth.
“And, we’d have been grounded – sorry, promoted – years ago and only get to fly training missions,” Jake finished, smiling.
Chance grinned again and raised his can to clink against Jake’s.
“Guess we got the better deal, after all, huh?”
“No question about it, bud.”
