This is a random bit of nonsense I wrote set in some form of Fullmetal Alchemist/Blue Exorcist fusionverse. Ed and Rin have a talk about little brothers and the laws of the universe.
Laws of the Universe
“You’d think it would be a law of the universe or something!” Edward Elric jabbed a finger at the sky and lowered his voice to intone, “The eldest brother must always be the tallest.” He dropped his arm and spun back to face his companion. “It just makes sense.”
“Ehhh?” Okumura Rin raised his head from the pillow of his interlinked hands to look up at Ed. “How does it make sense?”
“Because us big brothers have to protect our little brothers,” Ed answered as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“Well, duh.” For Rin, it was. “But, you can do that anyway.”
“Of course I can!” said Ed. “But, what if I needed to carry Al out of a fire or something?”
“You’d use your alchemy stuff.” Rin grinned. “And, if it was me, I’d just carry Yukio. He’s tall, but it’s not like he’s heavy.”
“You don’t think cars are heavy.”
“They’re not to me.”
Ed huffed. “Okay then, what about respect?”
“Respect?”
“Yeah. How are our brothers supposed to respect us when they’re looking down on us? Literally.”
Rin frowned. “Yukio is pretty bossy. Like he thinks I’d get in trouble without him telling me what to do.”
“Tell me about it.” Ed threw himself down in the grass near Rin. “Al’s like a mother hen.”
Now, Rin was scowling. “Brother, did you do your homework?” he said in a falsetto that was nothing like his younger twin’s baritone.
“Brother, you’ll catch a cold sleeping that way,” Ed returned in the same tone.
Then, together, “Brother, were you fighting again?”
That one was followed by snorts of laughter and shared smirks.
“I guess they wanna protect us too,” Rin said after a minute.
“Yeah,” said Ed. “That’s definitely a law of the universe.”
