Drabble Post - Tolerable/Semblance (FMA)

Finally completing the second half of
jordannamorgan's challenge to me to explore the relationship between Dante and Envy in the first FMA anime. Somehow, it turned into two very different drabbles.
Tolerable
She was neither mother nor maker, and that was why he tolerated her. That and the fact that she was his best chance of finding Hohenheim.
Oh, Hohenheim wouldn’t come back for her. She could lie to herself all she liked, but the only thing Hohenheim would come back for was the Stone, the research. And, when Hohenheim came, he would be waiting.
In the meantime, it was fun to toy with the insects for her. For her and for himself. Stealing identities and spreading lies, watching the humans destroy themselves. Because he had all the time in the world.
Semblance
The similarities were there.
They both stole faces and lives without thought. They both took a certain pride in appearance. They both held themselves as their own highest priority. (Though that was only what everyone did; they were just honest about it.)
But, they were not family.
She was not “mother”, and he was not “son”.
And, he would have it no other way. “Family” was a lie. The lie of the man who called himself “father” and then walked away when he somehow failed to be “son”.
And, for all that she lied too, at least she had stayed.
Notes: Of course, all of this is from Envy's point of view, so bear in mind that he's not exactly an unbiased source. Ie: Hohenheim may have his faults, but I've never thought Envy was blameless in whatever passed between them.
