And, Inuyasha Comes to an End

Wow... It's hard for me to believe that Inuyasha (the manga) has really ended. I don't think I've ever followed anything that managed to last so long. And, I missed the first several years of Inuyasha's run. I just came in in 2001 and had to catch up. Still, it's been a great ride, and I'll miss my weekly Inuyasha fix. Anyways, comments on the finale will be behind the cut. First, in honor of the end of Inuyasha, an Inuyasha sketch post:

Catch - Inuyasha catches Kagome as she trips. Edit: I made some changes to this one and reposted a corrected copy.

Smile - I think this was originally supposed to be another sketch based on "After the Bone Eater's Well" of Six, one of Inuyasha's clones. After all, how often does Inuyasha smile like that? Still, it's cute.

Grip - Inuyasha in modern dress catches himself after being blasted back.

Delivery - From an idea that might eventually become an AU fanfic. Miroku and Sango encounter some trouble while trying to return a lost sword. I like the style I used here, but I can't quite seem to get Sango right.

Fanfic Post - The More Things Change... Chp. 1

Well, here's something a little different. I have a writer's block story that I've been turning to when I've been stuck on Miscommunication, and I've finally completed the first chapter of it. With "Miscomm" and Doubletake still in the works, I don't want to have yet another multi-chapter story going. So, I think I'll post this one here in a sort of rough draft, don't-expect-regular-updates... even-by-Kris-standards form. Once it's complete, I'll clean it up for posting to FFN. That said, any comments or corrections are always appreciated.

So, anyways, here's an Inuyasha "what if?" fanfic I'm calling "The More Things Change..." Oh, and it's not Sess/Kag.

My Fanfiction Want Ad

Desperately Seeking: Inuyasha-centric Inuyasha fanfic. Entire cast present a plus. Inuyasha with a strong lead role a must. Introspection good. Butt-kicking action preferred. Wimpy, non-combative AU Inuyashas need not apply.

Posting my want ad as the Inuyasha fanfiction has been rather... Inuyasha-less of late. But, at least there's always After the BoneEater's Well with all its Inuyasha clone goodness, the real thing finally making his entrance and a recent new chapter.

Fanfic Recs

No long epics this time. Just some oneshots that I really enjoyed and thought I would recommend.

Six Feet and Slipping by Goldberry
Series: Bleach
Rating: K/G
Location: Fanfiction.net
Status: Complete/Oneshot
Summary: Ichigo's dying and everything is wonderful.
Comments: I think the summary covers it all. I mean, if you're familiar at all with Bleach... just think about it! Further proof that I really don't mind character death as much as I claim to. I just mind favorite characters going away and leaving me to read chapter after chapter without them ;)

Sacrifice by Aryndiel
Series: Inuyasha
Rating: T/PG-13
Location: Fanfiction.net
Status: Complete/Oneshot
Summary: The kazaana finally gets the better of Miroku, however, things don’t go exactly as expected. There is a sacrifice to be made.
Comments: Pay no attention to the bleakness of the summary ;) This is a serious story and there is a serious sacrifice, but, all the same, this one gave me a warm fuzzy. Because you know the Inuyasha gang would never lose a friend without a fight.

Warmth by Aryndiel
Series: Inuyasha
Rating: K/G
Location: Fanfiction.net
Status: Complete/Oneshot
Summary: Investigating a cold draft at night, Mrs. Higurashi muses on Inuyasha’s nature, and his presence in her daughter’s life.
Comments: A sweet little story that reminded me why I love Mama Higurashi as a character.

Aryndiel has also written several other wonderful oneshots that are all well worth reading.

Fanfic Post - Miscommunication, Chapter 8

Project/Website Updates: Finally got the next chapter of my ongoing Inuyasha fanfic Miscommunication completed! And, this time, it hasn't been... well, not quite a full year anyway! I also updated my Inuyasha site Gone to the Dogs, but the update just consists of the fanfic posting ;)

And, I've also changed the journal theme again to a fall look. It's not quite what I was looking for, but it's pretty.

Inuyasha Clones!

Sketches: Bleh, I haven't been drawing nearly enough lately. But, I have been slowly working on sketching all of the Inuyasha clones from Bons Baisers' fanfic After the BoneEater's Well.

First, Six and One, probably my favorites of the group. Six being the "older" one thanks to his growth being accelerated. One is his actual age of three.

Then, there's Goliath, the fifth clone. Probably my next favorite. His sketch needs work as he doesn't look nearly big enough, and his face could also use some tweaking.

Next up, Goliath's partner Hannibal, the second clone and computer whiz. I'm still not satisfied with his design.

Finally, the nasty, misguided, Seven (with captive One), who is still loyal to his creators and devoted to the destruction of his fellow (rogue) clones.

And, I'm trying to draw a sketch of the author's original character Holden, but she's being a difficult one, even more so than Hannibal.

GTTD Update - July

Website Updates: And, my Inuyasha site Gone to the Dogs is updated! I posted my latest drabble and a couple new icons as well as the banner for being Inuyasha - Karma's Site of the Month for May. I also took some of the lovely suggestions from the review I got with the Site of the Month pick and converted the site over to PHP along with some general cleaning up.

::beat:: And, now the website update cycle starts anew. Oh, well... Keeps me from ever getting bored.

Back from Animazement

Just got in from Animazement this afternoon. It was great! Having been used to Otakon, [livejournal.com profile] seekersks and I were a little surprised to find that we could just walk right in on Friday. There was no line if you had pre-registered. We walked in, handed over our registration cards and got our badges. In fact, Friday was pleasantly uncrowded all around. Parking also worked out pretty good. Coming back from lunch today, we had to hunt for a space, but found one without driving in too many circles. Small-ish cons definitely have their advantages.

Fanfic Recommendations

Just a few fanfic recommendations:

Death by Chocolate by Beth Einspanier
Series: CSI/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005 movie) Crossover
Rating: T/PG-13
Location: Fanfiction.net
Status: Complete
Summary: A young man is found in the desert, having been drowned in chocolate. Who would want him dead, and what does he have to do with a reclusive chocolatier from London?
Comments: The crossover idea sounds insane, but the story is excellent. Not only does the author pull off this improbable clash of realities in a believable manner, she writes a really great mystery too. There are plenty of suspects, plenty of motives, and I have to admit that I was surprised by the outcome. I've never watched CSI, but this came recommended from one of my favorite crossover authors, Mandolin, and it doesn't disappoint.

Ticking Time Bomb Baby by Omni82
Series: Rurouni Kenshin
Rating: T/PG-13
Location: Fanfiction.net
Status: Complete (more could be added, but what is there stands alone)
Summary: With every other potential babysitter refusing to deal with Kenji ever again, Kenshin finds himself left alone for a day with his demon spawn.
Comments: This is absolutely hysterical. I absolutely love the little "quirks" Kenji has picked up from all his past babysitters. The only downside is that the second chapter chronicaling Kenji's earlier stay with Sano and Megumi fell a little flat for me. I'm not sure why. Some of the jokes in it were a bit too risque for my taste, but, mostly, it just seemed to lack the overall wit of the first installment. But, the first chapter is brilliant, and I highly recommend it.
Yes, [livejournal.com profile] mintysage that summary is for you since I know how you feel about Kenji ;)

The Legend of Drunken Matrimony by S. Sakurai
Series: One Piece
Rating: T/PG-13
Location: Fanfiction.net
Status: Complete
Summary: The island of Rakuen may not be crawling with thugs and despots, but it still boasts an insidious danger to the Straw-Hat Pirates. After a night of inhibition-free revelry, have the cook and the thief turned into the wife and her lover?
Comments: Yeah, it sounds like the setup for any number of the semi-serious romantic dramas out there. But, it's not semi-serious, romantic or drama. It's One Piece. Everyone is in character, and the wackiness that makes One Piece so awesome is going in full swing.

After the BoneEater's Well by Bons Baisers
Series: Inuyasha (hypothetical post-series)
Rating: M/R for violence and adult themes
Location: Fanfiction.net
Status: 22 Chapters - Work In-Progress
Summary: Seven years after the well was destroyed, Kagome learns that there's still hope to see Inuyasha again. But, to get to him, she has to go through a fanatical society devoted to the destruction of all magical creatures. Not to mention accept the help of Sesshoumaru and some even more unusual allies.
Comments: The summary above is my own. I saved the author's summary (a portion of it) to sum up what sets this fanfic apart from the many other, "Kagome is trapped in her time and somehow re-meets Inuyasha," fanfics out there. What is it? What does this fanfic have that the others don't? "Fanatics, clones, a reformed Sesshoumaru, and an adorable baby Inu." Yeah. And, let me tell you, you gotta love the clones. Six is my favorite, but Goliath's a close second. I'll try not to give anything away, but, so far, this fanfic has been wonderfully different, and I've enjoyed every minute of it.
It also made me attempt fanart of Six and One and Goliath - all character designs very tentative and sketchy.

Updates - Gone to the Dogs

Website Updates: Well, over a week ago (2/19/07), I updated my Inuyasha site Gone to the Dogs. I posted my latest drabbles as well as one new colored pic I'd done.

Currently, I'm working on another update for the SWAT Kats Fanfiction Archive. Sorry it's a little late. I got a freelance webpage job, and it's had me busy for the last week. But, I'm working on the update now as well as tackling my e-mail backlog.

Sketch Post

Sketches: Just posting some sketches that I've done in the last few months.

Felina in Action - Having knocked one thug unconscious, Felina looks around warily for any of his buddies.

Not Even My Go-Go-Gadget Hat? - A little sketch I'm working on coloring for my pastor at church. He had asked me to draw something for him, and I thought up this one after one of his sermons. In discussing the Bible passage on putting on the whole armor of God, he made the joking comment that his first response was to think he needed more armor - maybe a full armored suit and some pillows and a Go-Go-Gadget hat even!

Blush - I think Miroku might have caught Sango admitting something she didn't intend for him to hear.

Snowfall - Kagome and Shippou enjoy the snow... which you can't see, but if I finish this, there will be snow.

Lots of Stuff

Website Updates: I've about got the Fanfic Archive update ready, and I'm hoping to get in an update on my own site soon. I've been revamping parts of my "What's a SWAT Kat?" section since some of it dated back to my first website... including the art. Yikes. The bad! It burns! Oh, and I'm also hoping to get up a new image now that it's time for the summer theme to go.

Fanfiction Review:
Mad World and The Black Plague
Author: Tigerkat
Series: SWAT Kats
Rating: K+/PG for some profanity and violence.
Summaries: [1] An old villain is loose and planning his most devious plot ever. How will the SWAT Kats stop him when another kat is living under their roof? [2] Tai begins his training to be a SWAT Kat and isn't doing well. Meanwhile, the evil Dr. Viper has infected the city's water supply with a horrible virus.

The first two entries in a series, these stories are probably two of the best "third SWAT Kat" stories I've read in years, and I just wanted to comment on them. The author's character, Tai, is really nicely handled. He's a likeable character with no outrageous abilites. (There are hints that he may develop some form of powers in the future, but these at least have been well-grounded in his background, logically explained and are developing slowly. In fact, he shows no extraordinary powers at all in the second story, "Black Plague".) He has a solid, believable background and a tendency to doubt himself that remains lightly handled without ever plunging into the depths of melodramatic angst. And, perhaps most refreshing of all, he actually has to train to be a SWAT Kat. And, as the icing on the cake, the canon characters are all in-character, and the stories feature fully-developed, original villain plots.

This Week's Inuyasha: Chapter 478 is out! And... [livejournal.com profile] mbimomma, I'm starting to think she really might break Tessaiga, possibly for keeps this time. It seems pretty clear certain other characters won't make it through this battle as well, but... I'm getting worried. Since Inuyasha now seems to be fully in control of his youkai blood, it could be reasoned that he doesn't need the Tessaiga anymore. His control is awesome, but... but... *cries* Tessaiga! Don't listen to the fandom, Takahashi! I know I'm like one of the poor sword's only three fans, but still!

SKFAA, GTTD Updates - October '06

Website Updates: And, the SWAT Kats Fan Art Archive is updated! Just a little update.

Additionally, I've updated my Inuyasha site, Gone to the Dogs. It's nothing I haven't posted here - just added my new drabbles.

And, hey, new LJ layout! Not sure if I'm going to keep this one or not. We'll see.
