Inuyasha in 30 Seconds or Less!

Well, I saw the first episode of "Inuyasha: The Final Act" tonight... and then I had to go and re-read the twelve chapters worth of the manga that it blitzed through on fast forward. I.... uhm... the animation was nice, and it was great to see everyone again and hear the old, familiar voice cast. But... but... I had little idea what was going on. The story picks up almost immediately where the original series left off (aside from the cutting of one short, self-contained storyline from the manga)... only it does so years after the end of the first series and years after I read the relevant chapters of the manga. A recap would have been nice, but... most of all, I just wished they hadn't put the plot on fast forward.

Maybe next week they'll at least slow down enough that it will make sense and characters won't seem to arbitrarily teleport into the scene as the plot demands and equally arbitrarily change their minds with no explanations. Please? Pretty please with sugar on top?

Ah well... at least it got me re-reading the manga, and the corresponding chapters were wholly enjoyable where the show... wasn't.

I think what I found interesting was that they were going by a single theme:

[Naraku] Kagura can't do anything. I'll kill her first.

---

[Kagome] You followed me when I said I'd be home late! I'll kill you! (Hey, being "osuwari-ed" is about as close to the ground as you'll get anyway)

---

[Moryomaru] ::grabbing Koga mid fight:: I'll kill you!

---

[Kikyou] ::after saving Koga:: Ugh... This is killing me!

---

[Kagura] I'll kill you, Kohaku!

---

[Kagura] Then again, maybe I won't kill you.

---

[Hakudoshi] Ha ha! You can't kill me!

---

[Hakudoshi] AHHHHH! YOU KILLED ME!

Of course, that only would've covered about ten seconds worth of episode, so I guess they had to do what they did....

::snortDIES!:: And, you know, speaking of Kagome bellowing at Inuyasha... she sure gets over it quick. I mean, I've always found Kagome's hangup about her schoolwork illogical. (Naraku + Shikon no Tama = End of the World. Nothing can really trump that in importance.) But, with the episode's breakneck pace, she goes from raging at Inuyasha to, "Oh, well, I guess it's okay," so fast it's like one of those bad fanfics where everyone experiences split-second mood swings.

Fangirls wrote the transcript, didn't they? They just highlighted the important stuff and gave it to the anime crew and said, "This is what we want."

This would explain "The Woman Who Loved Sesshoumaru."

No question about "The Woman Who Loved Sesshoumaru" in all its ridiculous, nonsensical glory, but this ep... Eh, I don't see the fangirl touch here. No illogical romance! Not any romance period really unless you get all squealy about Sess not ratting out Kagura and that's far too subtle for the sort of fangirl we're talking about. ::beat:: Wait, was that even in the episode or am I remembering the manga?
