I left it vague for now, but it's implied in Ed's brief memory of Hohenheim meeting him in the street, apologizing and then there being a flash of light.
--I'm guessing he's still in the armor even after all this time and Hakuro knew about it?--
Actually, Hakuro didn't know what happened to Al either. He just knew what Ed told him. He's not the sharpest crayon in the box, and he'd believe Al went home alone.
--Roy, would you kindly hurry up and be Ed's white knight here and save him from all these freakin' psychos, users, and losers?--
Fortunately, Ed's back in shape to save himself now, but he could definitely use some allies in the form of Roy and crew ;)
