I sure hope not. I mean, it might be turned around to say that all the upgrades were just for Inuyasha to learn, which isn't a bad thing, but... *cries* I like Tessaiga. Of course, I'm also among the three (well, here's hoping there's at least one more out there) fans, and I know I'm biased.
But, yeah, I trust Takahashi will pull something good out of it either way.
