kristensk: thumbs up (fma ed thumbs up)
And, another [community profile] fandom_stocking is over. I wanted to do a bit more this year, but it just wouldn't come together. Still, I completed a oneshot, another installment in my dragon!Royverse, and two drabbles, all of which I'll be posting over the next few days.

My own stocking was a little bag of happiness. I got a lot of well wishes, gorgeous photo links, Inuyasha fanart, and two lovely fanfic gifts.

First, Wardrobe Adjustment by [personal profile] jordannamorgan, a wonderful Ao no/Blue Exorcist fic featuring all my favorite things - demon!Yukio, anime follow-up, sibling shenanigans, and awesome friendship feels between the twins and Shiemi.

Then, there were even more family/friendship feels plus wintry goodness in First Snow by [personal profile] evil_little_dog, a sweet FMA fic with Ed, Al, and Winry enjoying Al's first snowfall after regaining his body.

Thanks so much to everyone!

*flop* And, my yearly Christmas image is done. It's a fairly simple one, so I have no idea why finishing it was like pulling teeth.

Now, on to [community profile] fandom_stocking!

Otherwise, it's been a great Christmas. I got to see the family, visited some friends, started my littlest cousin on model horse collecting (mwahaha), and even got an extra day off work. Gift-wise, I'm absolutely rolling in movies to re-watch now that I either finally own them or finally own them on DVD: Guardians of the Galaxy, Miracle of the White Stallions, Newsies, the 90's TMNT movies, Anastasia, and the anime Baccano!. Plus some manga, fuzzy socks, fuzzy shirts, and an adorable children's book I requested for... research purposes... yeah, interest in illustration and all that, you know. (Plus, I'm amused that the main character is named Yukio.)
kristensk: Inuyasha's tweakable ears (tweak)
So, every year, I pounce on the holiday peppermint like a starving wolverine. Because I love mint, and they're stingy with it the rest of the year. But, this year, it might have hit new heights of peppermint happy.

...I might have also had a couple peppermint shakes from Chick-Fil-A and the peppermint pancakes from IHOP.
kristensk: bingo! (sk bingo)
Yes, the SWAT Kats Fan Art Page has seen a small belated Christmas update with one new holiday image from newcomer Arvin.

And, yes, I did post the update on the 27th, but the website was acting up at the time and there was some kind of delay on every change I made.
kristensk: Inuyasha's tweakable ears (tweak)
Well, Christmas has come and gone, and it was a good time with the family. Different with one less this year, but we made the best of it. We spent a lot of time together picking up last minute presents, checking out the Christmas lights, and, for me, Mom, and Seeker, watching "Star Wars". Oh, and many cookies were made. Many, many. Plus amassing my yearly peppermint stash. And, that photo doesn't include the peppermint ice cream. Yes, yes, I am addicted.

Gift-wise, I've been started on two more manga, Blood Blockade Battlefront and My Hero Academia (shelf-space, I need it); finally got my hands on the "Pacific Rim" novelization, which will have to tide me over until the delayed sequel comes along; cashews (oh, it's been so long since I've had cashews), and [personal profile] jordannamorgan sent along peppermint for my stash, a wondermous Ao no/Blue Exorcist T-shirt plus an absolutely gorgeous little Fullmetal Alchemist-themed notebook/journal.

With all that went on, I didn't have time for my yearly Christmas pic, so, instead, I spruced up last year's (something I'd wanted to do anyway) and made a wallpaper version. (I'm linking to my DeviantART account as the file size is slightly huge, but I think it can be easily shrunk for smaller monitors.)

Now, it's off to see if I can at least finish a few things for [community profile] fandom_stocking this year.
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Yes, I'm still posting gift!fic because I'm slow. And, I've realized that I hadn't even mentioned the lovely gift fics I received! So, let's see: in the [livejournal.com profile] fmagiftexchange I got a lovely stocking full of fic, icons (including some hilarious animated ones), and even an art piece! Fic included a very sweet Roy/Riza holiday piece and a hilarious piece where Hughes meets Mustang's sisters.

Then, there was [community profile] fandom_stocking with some real surprises in this year's stocking. Besides some gorgeous picspams and well wishes, I got a sweet Blue Exorcist fic! And, an offer for some SWAT Kat fic! (I really can't believe that one, but I'm squeeing.) To top it all off, [personal profile] jordannamorgan passed along another of her beautiful, thoughtful FMA pieces with a take on equivalent exchange (and Al) that I quite love.

(Also, I confess that I'm holding off on posting the two longest gift!fics I wrote while I clean them up a bit.)
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Whew! Sorry for the long silence. Life got a little crazy there for a bit between work and the holidays and, oh yeah, buying a car on one of my busiest work weeks because the seller was ready and the price was right. And, because I've been driving the same car for twenty years. Since it was five and I was sixteen.

At any rate, there was a brief family crisis, but, on the whole, the holidays were good. I got to see the extended family, and my immediate family got to spend quite a bit of time together. And, even though I was too ambitious and it was late, I did manage to finish my annual SWAT Kat Christmas pic. I also completed three entries for the [livejournal.com profile] fmagiftexchange, which I'll be posting later.

Giftwise, I received a load of squee from [personal profile] jordannamorgan featuring FMA, AnE and Inuyasha goodies. Then, there were books, movies (ah, Les Miz, I've been wanting a re-watch), the final DVD set of the "Kekkaishi" anime and enough manga to bring me thiiiis close to completing my Inuyasha and Psyren sets.

Now, I just have a couple things to wrap up for [community profile] fandom_stocking...
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Well, it was a quiet but good Thanksgiving weekend. Food was eaten, leftovers are still being eaten, and I signed up to participate in both [community profile] fandom_stocking and the [livejournal.com profile] fmagiftexchange. Hopefully, that wasn't a bad idea.

Also, Seeker helped me pick up a Christmas tree. It's a Douglas fir this year, the first one we've ever had. Not as pretty as a scotch pine, but it smells nice. With shipping prices sky-rocketing, there will be no ordering a lovely, fresh-cut scotch pine from Michigan this year. But, it's all good so long as the tree doesn't dry out too quickly. No one wants a repeat of the exploding Christmas tree. Pine needles everywhere. Plus a cat stampede. ...You had to be there.
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Well, Christmas was a little quiet this year, but awesome. Family came over, entirely too much was eaten (orange danish for breakfast... mmm... it's been too long), and presents were unwrapped. And then, I ended the day by watching "Kung Fu Panda 2", "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Megamind" on FX's Dreamworks-A-Thon or whatever it was.

Present-wise... Well, I now have plenty of things to watch or re-watch - "Pacific Rim", "Summer Wars", "Trigun: Badlands Rumble", the first season of "Avatar: The Last Airbender", and a lovely little Chuck Jones collection. Also, there were soundtracks (at last the "How to Train Your Dragon" soundtrack!), fuzzy warm socks, and [personal profile] jordannamorgan hooked me up with some lovely little Ao no/Blue Exorcist and Inuyasha goodies. (Again, thank you! I'm still squeeing.)

Also, though I'm late in posting here, I did complete my yearly SK Christmas pic. Onward to [community profile] fandom_stocking submissions!
kristensk: little kids in the snow (ane little twins)
So, I finished up almost all of my Christmas shopping today and, once home, tallied up my non-gift Christmas goodies. I think I'm seeing a pattern...

Especially since I also had one of these beauties from Chick-Fil-A while I was out.
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Yes, I'm late with this post and my yearly SWAT Kat Christmas image. I am working on it! ...It just doesn't like me much right now. But, I did manage to clean up a Christmas-y Blue Exorcist image I drew last year.

Otherwise, Christmas was great. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits, and it was even cool enough to have a fire in the fireplace. (It should always be cool enough for this; there should be a rule.) Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jordannamorgan, I won't be suffering chocolate mint deprivation anytime soon, and I got this adorable little Rin from [livejournal.com profile] mintysage as well as an equally adorable keychain figure. I also now have two new pairs of my favorite 7-pocket hiker's jeans, this amazing fleece shirt with pockets inside its pockets (yes, I love pockets), the Blue Exorcist Color Archive and a great lot of books. I'm much looking forward to the long-awaited continuation for the Star Wars X-Wing series, Aaron Allston's "Mercy Kill". And, because I got it first, I've already dived into the first book in the Temeraire series, "His Majesty's Dragon". An alternate history re-imagining of the Napoleonic Wars with dragons?! How could I resist?
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Whew!

Christmas was great, but it's been a busy evening online.

I finished up my traditional SWAT Kat Christmas image and then posted the short fics I wrote for the [livejournal.com profile] fmagiftexchange. I actually have one more entry to post, an art entry, but that'll have to be tomorrow.  I'm too tired for tricky things like touching up fingers (especially automail ones) tonight ;)

Also, because I think it came out nicely, I'm posting the AnE Christmas wallpaper I made for myself. Because little Rin and Yukio are adorable.

Otherwise, I can see I'm going to be in music heaven for a while.  I now have a stack of soundtrack CD's to work my way through, mostly by John Williams but also including "The Neverending Story" as well as the X-Men movie soundtracks courtesy [livejournal.com profile] jordannamorgan. (Again, thank you!) I have a nice stack of books and manga to keep me busy otherwise. And, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] seekersks and [livejournal.com profile] mintysage I'm going to need more wallspace for all the FMA poster/wall scroll awesomeness they sent my way.

And, there should be an update to the SWAT Kat Fanfiction Archive coming soon as well as some drabble and icon projects I have in the works.
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Merry Belated Christmas and an advance Happy New Year!

Aiy! I really did mean to make a Christmas post, but things were a bit hectic here. It wasn't a bad Christmas, but it was a little subdued with our recent string of problems (particularly car trouble like whoa) and then the loss of our nearly twenty year old cat, Jenny. She was born in our garage in 1991 and outlived her brother, Brave, by eleven years (almost to the day). We're going to miss our little one.

Aside from that, there were far too many desserts, my little second cousin turned two, I got a lot of FMA stuff to squee over and [livejournal.com profile] seekersks got me the awesome new desk chair I'm currently enjoying. To fully explain the awesomeness of the chair I'll note that it's got nice thick pads for the seat and back while its predecessor was a wooden kitchen chair. And, it makes a great reading chair too.

Additionally, I managed to finish my annual SWAT Kat Christmas pic and actually updated Kristen's SWAT Kat Gallery. Mostly with things that were already posted here over the last year, but they've all been permanently archived on the site now (sketches, drabbles, icons, fanfic recommendations, etc.). Although, looking at the additions to my non-SK fanfiction over the last year or so, I'm starting to think I may need to re-consider about making a small FMA site...
kristensk: little kids in the snow (ane little twins)
So, here as it's almost a new year, I'll make my last post for 2009. The holidays have been good here. Christmas was great. Over far too fast, but great. I got to see all of the family, including my cousin, his wife and my little... second cousin? When you start getting into the children of cousins, I start getting confused. Anyways, good times.

And, I finished my Christmas image before Christmas! It's posted over at Kristen's SWAT Kat Gallery. Though expect to see a corrected version soon as I inevitably end up tweaking anything I rush to complete. (It's already been noted to me that Chance is missing his whiskers. And, that's fixed now.) There should also be a proper update coming along soonish as well.

And, of course I got gifts, including:

- A Sony Walkman mp3 player, which is awesome since the old mp3 player Seeker loaned me died a few months ago and the ancient CD player I've been using was a battery hog.
- The complete Heat Guy J series (fun show).
- "Spirited Away" and "Independence Day" on DVD. (I never had the former and only had a VHS of the latter.)
- The second season of the old TMNT series. (Still my favorite version of the Turtles.)
- The complete set of The Mysterious Cities of Gold. Finally! At last, I get to see that last episode that I always managed to miss when the show ran on Nickelodeon. Of course, it's been so many years, I'll have to re-watch the entire series first.
- And, an Amazon giftcard I will be putting to good use ;)

2009 has been an okay year, but here's hoping I get a few more things done in the coming year. Especially art-wise. I've really been letting my art slide.
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Ramblings: Christmas was great this year despite our family gathering being a bit smaller. But, my cousin and his wife were understandably tied up. As of today, I have a new little first cousin once removed!

And, I got some nice gifts:

- Some awesome new jeans loaded with pockets courtesy [livejournal.com profile] seekersks, who was apparently tired of me coveting his cargo pants.
- The soundtrack to Steamboy as well as new CD's by Enya and Loreena McKennitt, who I haven't heard anything from in a while.
- The set of all four Indiana Jones movies.
- The fifth and sixth season boxsets of Inuyasha. (Now, I just need that elusive third season box, and I'll have them all to date. Mwahahahaaa!)
- The first Naruto movie, Pixar's awesome Ratatouille and the TMNT movie.
- The Inuyasha Manga Profiles book.
- Several other books, most notably Piper at the Gate by Mary Stanton. It's the sequel to "The Heavenly Horse from the Outermost West", which I read in middle school in a span of about twenty-four hours and still remember clearly. Superb book. I hope the sequel will be as good.

Website Updates: Also, Kristen's SWAT Kat Gallery has been updated! No new Christmas image this year as I was tied up with some other projects, but I did get one finished pic up! It's a terribly out of season one, but ah well. Additionally, I updated the Non-SK Fanfiction page with the drabbles I've been posting here, updated the links and made some minor tweaks to the Curious About Me? page.
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Website Updates: Well, not a real update, but I finally posted my very, very belated Christmas image to Kristen's SWAT Kat Gallery. It still needs some tweaks before I post it full-size anywhere else, but I'm working on it. A real update should also be coming soon.

And, in other news, Christmas was great. Mom, Seek and I had a great time on the Saturday before Christmas doing our last bit of shopping and just generally goofing off together. And then, we met with various parts of the family on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and again on Thursday after Christmas, and everyone had a great time each visit.

It was also a good Christmas fandom-wise as I got the fourth season boxset of Inuyasha and the second/last season boxset of The Twelve Kingdoms. I also got the Transformers (2007 movie) DVD and some old favorites I'd never had even VHS copies of - An American Tail and The Land Before Time.

So, I've now got lots of things to watch.
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Well, since others already posted photos of their Christmas trees, I thought I'd post ours. Here it is! We got it decorated and all on Saturday. A little late, but we had to wait for the tree to come in. Yes... we ordered our tree off the internet... and it was my mother's idea, not Seek's. We decided to take a gamble since not only were the local dealers out of our preferred scotch pine, all of their trees were very, very dry. Last year's tree was a matchstick before we got it out of the house, so... we ordered a fresh-cut tree from Michigan. [livejournal.com profile] mbimomma, you have very pretty trees up there. I'm sure it's all the snow ;)
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Ah, decorating the LJ is so simple. Not like decorating the house. But, running up and down the steps to the attic and crawling under furniture to plug the window lights in is half the fun ;) Anyways, just posting to give my journal its Christmas look.

Oh, and, [livejournal.com profile] mbimomma, I saw snow yesterday! Just a little, but... snow! Hence the icon.
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Late Thanksgiving, but I just wanted to post this. Look what was in our yard Friday! No, this is not a normal occurrence. Personally, I think they were on the run. We saw them again over the weekend and several times this week. Not surprisingly, they were nowhere to be seen today. And, check out the gray blob over on the right. You can see the blob better in this shot. Still on the right. (Sorry for the odd stuff in that one - I took it through a window and got reflections.) Flash thought she was going to catch an early Thanksgiving dinner. Flash is crazy.
kristensk: snow-covered trees (let it snow)
Happy New Year, Everyone! It's been an awesome holiday season. Had loads of goodies last night for New Year's (too many really, but I have no control when there's fudge to be had), and Seek and I watched the first four episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender. I'm liking it a lot so far. But, I knew I would. It comes highly recommended from [livejournal.com profile] mbimomma, after all. Anyways, Christmas was also really good. We had an awesome service at church Christmas Eve Sunday and then Christmas day the whole family made it in and we had a great time together.

As for the presents, I got:

* The second season Inuyasha box set. *SQUEE!*
* The first season Rurouni Kenshin premium box set. The box alone is gorgeous! *MORESQUEE!*
* Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves on DVD
* Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on DVD (Somehow I missed getting this one sooner.)
* The Last Starfighter on DVD. (I'm trying to collect old favorites again. My last copy of this one is on a Betamax tape. Yes, I still have those. I have a mostly working Beta player too.)
* Loreena McKennitt's "The Mask and the Mirror"
* The soundtrack to "Mr. Holland's Opus"
* A cool Full Metal Alchemist poster from [livejournal.com profile] ks_claw
* A hilarious cat calendar from my co-worker Shelia
* My Christmas bonus/present at work - I love my bosses!

And, probably my most interesting gift - Mom found me some early editions of a couple of Marguerite Henry's books. Henry was and still is one of my favorite authors, but I've found that more recent printings of her books don't include the other thing that I loved about her stories - Wesley Dennis' gorgeous full page illustrations. Some of the newer paperbacks include his small black and white pieces at the beginnings of chapters and occasionally scattered among the pages. But, I haven't seen the incredible full page colored illustrations from books like "White Stallion of Lipizza" or "Guadenzia: Pride of the Palio" since I checked them out of the library in fifth grade. Mom is awesome. (And, yes, "awesome" is my favorite word again today.)
