This is a completely random Fusionverse drabble that started with a passing thought of how the Elrics could help the Okumura twins and bloomed into Ed rambling.

Al saw it first. Al, Ed was forced to admit, saw a lot of things first.

Because, sometimes, Ed was too wrapped up in his own head to see things around him. He was like Yukio that way.

Good thing he had Al to shake him out of it. And, he’d thought Yukio had Rin.

Well, Yukio did have Rin. That wasn’t the problem.

“Yukio doesn’t listen to Rin,” Al said.

“Yeah?” Ed was trying to memorize the Book of Revelation because crazy stuff happened in there, and he kind of hoped, if he shouted the right verse at the right demon, it would summon one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Or turn the moon to blood. “I don’t listen to Rin.”

At least not to the babbly parts. When Rin had something serious to say, Ed listened. Because Rin was like Al. He saw things. Particularly in people.

“Not like that.” As usual, Al knew what he was thinking. “Yukio doesn’t listen to Rin at all. Not when Rin has a suggestion. Or when Rin senses something.”

And, Rin might not understand all of his demon senses yet, but, when Rin thought something was off, it always meant trouble.

“What do you mean?” said Ed. “Last week, when we were in that nest of coaltar, Yukio made us get out when Rin sensed that huge King Koks thing.”

“Yukio reacted when you and Suguro commented on the coaltar massing at the back of the room,” Al explained patiently. “Not before that when Rin said he sensed a larger demon.”

Frowning, Ed put the Bible down and mentally ran through all the classes and assignments they’d done with Yukio. Yukio was annoyingly by the book, but he’d adapted. He didn’t like Ed’s non-standard answers, but he accepted them. Just like he accepted that Shiemi knew her plants even when he had to ask her to stop giving the herbs weird names. And, though his tone let Shima know exactly what he thought of some of his joking ideas, Yukio always explained why they were stupid ideas.

Ed sucked in a breath, realizing.

Unless it was Rin who had the stupid idea. Or any idea. Because, nine times out of ten, Rin’s comments were ignored.

Ed swore, and Al nodded in agreement.

Right. So, now they knew. Time to put their heads together and figure out how to fix it.

This is quite interesting. Oh yes, naturally Al would be the perceptive one. :)

(Of course, as such a small piece, this makes me curious about the setup/background of this fusionverse.)

Yeah, I think the Elrics knowing and studying with the Okumuras is kind of the big "how did that happen?" point. *g*
